In our everyday lives B vitamins are essential for an amazing number of our bodily functions. The B-complex vitamins are actually a group of eight vitamins, which include thiamin (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), pyridoxine (B6), folic acid (B9), cyanocobalamin (B12), pantothenic acid and biotin. Unlike minerals, B vitamins are organic (carbon containing) molecules that are best known to function as catalysts for chemical reactions that occur in our bodies. A catalyst is a substance that allows a chemical reaction to occur more efficiently and in less time than it would take under normal conditions. If these catalysts are missing, as in what might occur in a vitamin deficiency, normal body functions do not occur as they should and we can become susceptible to disease. The natural B-complex vitamins can be found in brewer's yeast, liver, whole-grain cereals, rice, nuts, milk, eggs, meats, fish, fruits, leafy green vegetables and many other foods. And you might wonder “well then, why should I take this product as a supplement?” The answer is simple; food just isn’t what it was one hundred years ago. Much of what we eat today is highly processed and in many cases can be devoid of any significant nutrient content at all. But again due to the nature of the world today and the amount of antibiotics and other drugs that are prescribed and are known to destroy B-Vitamins, it is imperative that we look to balance the scales by finding a quality supplemental source.
